We left our lovely home in Cottanello on Sunday morning 8 o'clock. Our dear friend Carlo brought us to the train station. A last Italian espresso and we stepped onto the train to the airport of Rome Fiumicino. At the Check-in of Kuwait Airways they asked us for our return ticket. Luckily we had heard that before that you will need to show a valid ticket out of the country before your visa expires, so we had booked a random cheap flight to Singapore, which we happily showed. We left Rome around 1 PM (I was really very sad about leaving). We arrived in Kuwait at 7 PM local time (+1 hour) and waited for our next flight which should be around midnight. We waited and waited and around 11:30 a small man was running around the gate and shouting something which sounded like "Jakarta?". Just by chance I later heard a woman asking him "Kuala Lumpur?" so I guessed it was something about our flight. I ran after him and he told me that our flight had been cancelled and would be tomorrow morning at 7AM.
Argh! Not only would we have to wait so long, but we would also miss our flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi the next day... So we got brought to the airport hotel where we used the internet to book a different flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi. They told us they would wake us for our flight in the morning and we had a few hours of sleep. There came no wake up call. At around 6:30 the call came - to tell us it was breakfast time. So we went down to the lobby to find all the other flight guests, mostly Malaysian or Kuwaiti, looking just as tired and frustrated as we were. The hotel staff told us the flight would not be at 7 AM - but at 2 PM they surely could tell us more. WAAAH!! Which meant we would also miss our new flight to Langkawi! So we had breakfast and lunch and then finally they set up a sign that said the flight would be at 4 AM the next day (Tuesday). We booked another flight to Langkawi (not giving up!). We spent a whole day in the airport hotel of Kuwait (we were not allowed to go out). We watched s strange Indian television program, slept, and had dinner. Again there was no wake up call but at 2 AM a man was opening our door to tell us that everybody was already in the lobby. Luckily we were already all set. So finally finally we left Kuwait at 4 AM and flew to Kuala Lumpur. At 5:30 PM local time (+5 hours) we arrived and - thank God - so did our luggage! We then had to find the bus that would take us to the other terminal of the airport where the cheap airlines take off, which takes another 25 minutes. There we checked in and waited for our last flight to Langkawi Island which should have taken off at 9:15 PM. Of course it was half an hour late. At a 10:45 PM we finally arrived in Langkawi!!!!!! Just to see that nobody was waiting at the airport to pick us up. My last bit of self-control crumbled away and I was on the verge of tears. But after a quick call and 30 minutes later, our driver showed up and brought us to our place......what a trip!
